Prof. OMIRIN, Modupe Moronke

Personal Statement

Professor Omirin joined the services of the Department of Estate Management, University of Lagos, shortly after its inception in 1983. Prior to that she had worked briefly in the Commercial Properties Division of the Real Estate Department, Federal Housing Authority’s Lagos Office at Festac Town Amuwo Odofin. She obtained her B. Sc. degree in Estate Management from the University of Nigeria (Enugu Campus) in 1978 and her M.Sc. degree in Urban Land Appraisal from the University of Reading, England in 1981. She later obtained her Ph.D. degree in Land Economy from University of Cambridge.


Over her academic career so far, she has taught several undergraduate courses including Principles of Land Economics, Land Policy and Resource Management, Property Management, Portfolio Management, and Research Methodology. At Masters level she has taught Urban Land Economics and Public Policy Facilities Performance Evaluation, Seminars in the Management of Specialized Facilities, Land in the Housing Value Chain and Housing Policy. For Doctoral level, Professor Omirin handles Advanced Issues in Urban Land economics.
Her primary research areas of interests include Land Policy impacts on private Low-income housing, Land Administration and Management and Gender Issues in Land Accessibility. Other areas include Facility Management performance Evaluation. Apart from publishing numerous journal papers and chapters in books on these subjects, she has students in relevant areas. She has participated in notable sponsored research and is currently the Cluster Lead of the Land Administration and Management Research Cluster under the Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development (CHSD) otherwise known as the African Research Universities Alliance (ARUA) Centre of Excellence for Urbanization and Habitable Cities. She has also been an External Examiner to other Universities in Nigeria and internationally.


Her other experiences include service as a Hall Mistress in charge of one of the University’s Female Hostels, Membership of the Board of UNILAG CONSULT (the University’s Consultancy arm), Headship of the Department and Deanship former Head of Department of Estate Management, Unilag. He has supervised 102Undergraduate- and 56 Postgraduate-(MSc, MHDM, MFM & PhD) projects. He also teaches at The ARUA Centre of Excellence for Sustainable Urbanisation and Habitable Cities and & The Centre for Housing and Sustainable Development. Similarly, he is a resource person at the SPESSCE Centre of Excellence, a World Bank Project in the University of Lagos. He is a member of various research clusters and research grant-groups. He has attended international training in Corporate Governance, Business Ethics and Project Management. He is currently an Associate Professor on the verge of a full chair.
