He obtained his first degree in Urban and Regional Planning from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and postgraduate degrees in Geographic Information Systems and Urban and Regional Planning from the University of Ibadan. He completed his Ph.D. in 2013 at the University of Melbourne, Australia, specialising in Spatial Data Infrastructure and Land Administration within the field of Infrastructure Engineering.
Prof. Agunbiade is a member of the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners (NITP) and a registered planner with the Town Planners Registration Council (TOPREC). He is also one of the founding members of the Global Spatial Data Infrastructure (GSDI) Association.
