Dr. OLADIRAN, Olatunji Joseph

Personal Statement

Olatunji Joseph Oladiran is a Researcher and a Professor of Construction Management and Sustainable Developments in the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He obtained Diploma Degree (OND) in Building Technology from Yaba College of Technology, Yaba, Nigeria in 1991; Bachelor’s degree in Building from Ahmadu Bello University, Nigeria in 1995; and then had Master degree in Construction Management in 2005 and Ph.D degree in Building in 2015 from the University of Lagos, Nigeria. He became a Registered Member of the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) in September 2006; Corporate Member of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) in October 2005; Associate Member of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) in November 2004; and Member of Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM) in September 2003. He worked in the construction industry from 1996 to 2006 in various capacities such as Store Manager, Site Manager, Consultant Resident Engineer, Project Engineer and so on. He started his academic career in the Department of Building, University of Lagos, Nigeria on 3rd November 2006 as an Assistant Lecturer. He was promoted to Lecturer II in 2007; Lecture I in 2015; Senior Lecturer in 2018; and Associate Professor in 2021. He has over 60 publications in Journals and Conference Proceedings. Dr. Oladiran has mentored and supervised over 100 undergraduate and 80 postgraduate students’ research projects. He was also the Principal Researcher in a research with grant awarded by TETFund.


His research interests focus on Waste Management, Sustainable Construction, Material Science, Waste to Energy (WtE), Energy Efficiency. He researches on minimization of construction materials wastages through novel strategies, development of frameworks and application of lean construction (LC). He also researches on development and performance of new construction materials; Autoclaved Aerated Concrete (AAC); concrete aggregates’ replacements such as Palm Kernell Shells (PKS), Periwinkle Shells (PS), bamboo leaves; and appraisal of buildings for smart city. His current research revolves on reduction of building energy consumption and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. He had served in many units and committees of the Faculty of Environment Sciences, University of Lagos.
